Volcafe entrusts Sustaain for their EUDR compliance portal
The platform will facilitate supplier onboarding, collection of evidence and interconnection of systems for deforestation and traceability to ensure data reliability and due diligence statement submission to the EU Traces system to meet new EU’s compliance requirements.
Sustaain, a data and artificial intelligence platform dedicated to improving data for sustainable supply chains in soft commodities, has been awarded the contract to design, build and operate a new EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) compliance portal for Volcafe, one of the world's largest green coffee merchants.
This new mandate deepens the multi-year partnership between the two companies and marks a new phase in their collaboration on supply chain data, traceability and compliance. As regulatory pressure has intensified ahead of the December 31, 2026 compliance deadline for large and medium operators, Volcafe sought a partner combining unique expertise across the coffee sector, data and software delivery to accelerate and deepen its EUDR compliance capabilities. Volcafe and Sustaain responded by extending their existing multi-year partnership to this new, business-critical priority.
The portal covers the full EUDR value chain: supplier risk assessment, deforestation risk analysis, traceability and legality checks. It also includes automated submission of Due Diligence Statements (DDS) to the European Union's TRACES platform. Built on complex data engineering workflows, it automates risk calculation and the ingestion and processing of supporting documents, and leverages Volcafe’s proprietary methodologies with Sustaain established expertise in implementing EUDR compliance workflows.
The portal is designed to support Volcafe’s green coffee suppliers as well as internal teams.
It lays the ground for a broader ESG platform that will centralise Volcafe's extra-financial data and support additional use cases, including the EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) and carbon accounting.
Volcafe selected Sustaain for its ability to understand and process complex data, its capacity to encapsulate sector-specific expertise, and its track record in execution and project management. Over a year of collaboration, Sustaain has proven its ability to translate this expertise into a software solution built for adoption across all user groups. The platform follows the strictest IT security and data governance standards.
Preparing for EUDR, and for the broader regulatory landscape ahead, requires more than meeting a regulatory deadline. It requires building reliable systems, processes, and partnerships that can support compliance at scale. Our collaboration with Sustaain has helped us strengthen the digital infrastructure underpinning our due diligence efforts, enabling greater visibility across our supply chain and helping us manage regulatory requirements with confidence
